“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” – Socrates

Through the journey of life, change is a constant companion. Being afraid of change is normal, but accepting the change is mandatory. As your writing continues, do not be afraid to change things; do not be afraid to be unusual. Embrace the changes in yourself, in your writing, in the world. Every day is an opportunity. Just as trees shed their leaves for autumn, nature holds on to its strength, lets go of the unwanted, the unneeded, and is free to welcome all that comes. It is a natural act to change as the world continues through its cycles.

DAILY JOURNAL: Sit down and review something you’ve written. Peruse it for changes, examine alternate possibilities; nothing is set in stone.

POEM:
Change
The summer
still hangs
heavy and sweet
with sunlight
as it did last year.

The autumn
still comes
showering gold and crimson
as it did last year.

The winter
still stings
clean and cold and white
as it did last year.

The spring
still comes
like a whisper in the dark night.

It is only I
who have changed.
– Charlotte Zolotow
