DAY 7 ~ HUNTING WITHIN

Shine and shimmer my Harvest Moon, illuminate the shadows in the sky. ~ A.F. Stewart

The Hunter’s Moon, and the second Eclipse, in a rare series called the Tetrad.

October’s full moon is a rare occurrence. In Native American Lore it is a feast day, in preparation for storing meat for the long winter ahead. It’s also known for illuminating creativity. Some legends say its full of magic, perfect for this month and for your writing. Use the Hunters Moon for working on personal growth. Sit in the full moon, tap into its light. Let it illuminate and bring magic to your words. By definition, an eclipse is when something blocks, conceals, or covers. This moon is even rarer in that, in some parts of the world, you’ll be able to see the rising sun at the exact same time you see the setting moon. This is known as a “selenelion”, the sun and the moon exactly 180 degrees apart in the sky, and some scientists claim it is impossible. The window to see this event is anywhere from 2-9 minutes depending on where you are.

We can use this harvest moon for eclipsing out a belief that we don’t need or want anymore, such as we aren’t good enough to be writers, or to create, or to follow our dreams.

DAILY JOURNAL

Use the eclipse to reflect within. What could you do away with, what could you carry through the season?

POEM
Under the Harvest Moon
~Carl Sandburg, 1878 – 1967

Under the harvest moon,
When the soft silver
Drips shimmering
Over the garden nights,
Death, the gray mocker,
Comes and whispers to you
As a beautiful friend
Who remembers.
Under the summer roses
When the flagrant crimson
Lurks in the dusk
Of the wild red leaves,
Love, with little hands,
Comes and touches you
With a thousand memories,
And asks you
Beautiful, unanswerable questions.

**Try to catch a glimpse of the Harvest Moon-eclipse.

Ever grateful,
Juliet & Colette
