I enjoy my book clubs tremendously. I’ve met some amazing women and I’m honored to know them. We meet once a month and our discussions are lively, educating, and fun, and ALWAYS involve good food and drinks.
Book Club #1: We are reading Geek Love written by Katherine Dunn. This story follows a very unusual family and makes us think twice about what “normal” is. It has a unique and interesting cast of characters and an unusual setting. But what is prevalent (so far, since I’m only about a third of the way) is the love between the family members, until sibling rivalry gets in the way and changes things.
Book Club #2: We are reading Standing in the Rainbow by Fannie Flagg. A ode to small town America at it’s best. From the 1940s to the present. Reading this story is like being transported back in time and makes me want to drink a lemonade and sit out on the grass and enjoy the day. (I’m only about a quarter of the way into the story)
Both books should yield great discussions. They couldn’t be any more different from each other. As far as stories go they are on opposite ends of the spectrum. I’m curious to see what happens.
