The rain falls gently outside the barred window.
The whoosh of a car on a wet road.
I am snuggled in bed, the dogs at my feet,
And I wait for the storm approaching.
One that will join the storm raging
In this room
In my mind
These days it’s difficult to leave the house
To feel the yellow sun
Or the breath of mother earth
across my skin
The storm is coming but for now
The way I like it.
Only the voice in my head most days
Drowning out the ones I run from
I watch the world go by through barred windows
Am i keeping the boogeyman out
Or keeping the boogeyman in
I am snuggled in bed, the dogs at my feet
As the rain falls gently outside the barred window.
This morning I was stuck in traffic on the 5 Freeway, a typical work day for Angelenos. Usually I’d be upset but today I listened to an audiobook and brain stormed my WIP. The time I sat in once place helped me work out an issue involving my MC. Instead of getting upset and flustered, I arrived at work hopeful and excited that I’ll give my character a clearer sense of who she is and why she is on her journey. Today, I appreciated sitting on the 5 Freeway. Traffic isn’t always bad, it’s all depends on how you look at it.

If you’re like me, you have plenty of journals, rough drafts, scene sketches, or outlines. Find ONE you can work with and take some time to re-read. Then edit. This is where magic happens. Also, the hard work. It’s worth it.
Using fresh eyes, improve upon it as best you can. Do something with it. Add into another story. Write a poem. Write an article. Share it with a friend.
And by all means, have fun.
