Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

The end of another year is once again upon us. Christmas trees, presents, good food and plenty of family time. It is a time of reflection and hope for good things to come in the new year. Whether you believe in it or not Christmas time is the most wonderful time of the year in that it brings families just a little closer and maybe even a more forgiving and understanding. We are inspired to be more giving. To be givers of things, yes, but more importantly givers of our hearts. I wish that part of Christmas was around all year.

Christmas is so much more commercialized than the Christmas’s I had as a child but I still love it. For me the season is about spending as much time as possible with my husband and two children who aren’t so little any more. It’s about having our family traditions. Although I didn’t have many growing up I’ve created my own along the way and hold them close to my heart. Whether it’s baking cookies, building the gingerbread house, driving through the Christmas lights in Griffith Park and having dinner after, or decorating the tree and putting up the Christmas town underneath, they bring our family together every year. Also, I try to talk about and remember those who aren’t with us any more to give my children a sense of who they are and where they’ve come from. Thoughts of our family, past and present, decorate our house with love and joy. Those memories are priceless.

Christmas is about spending time together, with those you care about, whether family or friends. It’s all we really have. There is a quote I read every day that is hanging in my kitchen that says, “Today is a gift that’s why they call it the present”, written anonymously. Being present in each and every moment in our lives is magnified at Christmas. Finding inspiration in the little things each day. It is also a time of reflection that brings me hope for my little family, my sanctuary in this cold cloudy winter season for a warm and cheerful upcoming year. We set goals, we move forward, we live our lives the best that we can mistakes and all.

But we have to choose to take part in this experience we call Christmas. We have to open our hearts, to give a little bit of ourselves  receive something wonderful. When the earth starts to settle into the cold, cloudy winter season, it reminds us all about the cycles in our lives. Helps us to decide what’s important. For me the reason for the season is Peace, Love, and Hope. (I’m a forever hippie.) Those are powerful words that can truly change our lives.

So at the end of another very fast year I would like to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Procrastinator

That would be me. I’ve seen a lot of talk lately on this subject. It has got me thinking, again, as to why I have this problem? I don’t like it, being a procrastinator and yet at the end of the day that is exactly what I am, but why?  Maybe it goes back to childhood for reasons there isn’t anyway I’m going to remember now, less brain cells are active at the moment. Or maybe I’m just lazy, ok, maybe I am just a little.  Maybe it’s been a way to hide or protect myself over the years, like a turtle. In my heart of hearts I don’t believe any of those things. I am a procrastinator for one simple reason… what would happen if I truly succeeded?? Now that scares the **** out of me. Then I’d have to do it, whatever it maybe, forever!!

Silly, you might think, but oh no it is not.

I’ve wanted so many things, to be so many things, to do so many things. I’ve learned you can try them all but you can’t DO them all. I’ve been known through out my life as a jack of all trades but master of none. See? Procrastinator. My fear used to be that if I pick just one I will get bored. I limited myself in every way possible by giving myself that ultimatum. Now that I’m older and wiser, *crosses fingers*, I’m sort of pissed off at myself for doing that because now I have to essentially start from scratch, kind of.

Today, right now, there isn’t a better time for me to have a new, fresh perspective on life. It’s all in the attitude. Let’s face it, I’m not getting any younger. So in the spirit of new and fresh I’m going to create a few simple goals for me, nothing to far reaching so I don’t scare myself away, just simple everyday things I can do to push myself along.

1. be thankful

2. be in the moment

3. pay attention

4. laugh

5. interact with others (I’m not very good at this one because 1. I’ve been somewhat of a loner and 2. I’ve been a people pleaser at the same time. Talk about confusing.

6. laugh, oh I already said that, but it’s a good one so I’ll keep it on here twice.

7. continue to dream.

8. ease up on myself just a little and have some fun!!

9. laugh some more :))

And remember it’s never too late.
